Weichai Group has reported a Zhongtong H13E electric-coach road test using its H38 battery. We give a concise attributed brief, followed by our separate purchasing commentary for overseas readers.

What did the company report?

According to Weichai’s report, Zhongtong selected a customer-order H13E coach for a road test from Dongguan toward Zhanjiang in western Guangdong on 13 October. The company reported that the vehicle covered 640 kilometres without recharging, with a full load and air conditioning operating. It said the displayed state of charge fell from 99% to 32%. The report identified a Weichai H38 battery matched with Zhongtong’s electric-drive system. These are the company’s reported observations from that route, rather than an independently verified range rating or a promise for every operating environment.

Our procurement perspective

Our commentary: we would use this story to ask better project questions. A reported road run can provide useful discussion material, but an overseas buying decision needs an agreed application brief. I would ask the vehicle supplier to explain which offered configuration and operating conditions its proposal addresses. Keep the published test account and the proposed purchase requirements in separate sections of the project file.

For a fleet enquiry, we would start with the intended route, daily distance, passenger or payload requirements, climate and operating schedule. Ask the responsible technical team to identify what evidence it needs for that duty. A result from another route should prompt a comparison of conditions. It should not silently become the acceptance target for a different vehicle, destination or contract.

I would also separate the complete coach, battery system and other components when describing the requested supply. Ask who is responsible for the offered configuration, supporting documents and technical review. The test report names a vehicle and a battery system; it does not establish that an individual component can be substituted into another installation. Any proposed replacement needs its own identification and approval record.

Questions for an overseas project review

For an overseas project, we recommend a written question list that the buyer, supplier and technical reviewer can work through together. The table below is our suggested enquiry structure. It is not a specification issued by Weichai or Zhongtong. Mark unknown information openly, assign the person responsible for resolving it, and retain the answer alongside the supplier’s revised proposal.

Review areaWhat we would ask the supplier to explain
ApplicationIntended route, operating schedule, load and environmental conditions
Offered configurationExact vehicle or component identity, included systems and exclusions
Technical evidenceRelevant test conditions, supporting documents and responsible reviewer
Project supportDestination requirements, service responsibilities and agreed acceptance process

For our existing diesel-engine parts customers, the practical lesson is the value of a clearly defined application. Keep an electric-coach project separate from a diesel parts order. When contacting us about engine components, send the complete engine identification, existing part reference, photographs, quantity units and destination. The H13E story itself does not approve diesel-part compatibility or establish Weichaistore supply of the coach or battery system.

We recommend keeping the source report, your application brief and the itemized supplier offer together for review. For an identified Weichai engine-parts requirement, contact us with the supporting information. A complete enquiry helps us organize the questions that still need an answer before an overseas order.
